Carbon monoxide poisoning

Carbon monoxide poisoning – How to protect your family?

Today, carbon monoxide poisoning is the most common fatal poisoning in developed industrialized countries. In the United States, at least six hundred people die annually due to unintentional carbon monoxide poisoning.

Carbon monoxide is a very toxic gas with no color, odor and taste, so it can not be detected without proper equipment. We can not see carbon monoxide or smell, but it can kill us.

The level of carbon monoxide in the apartment increases due to improper installation, operation and maintenance of the wood and coal furnace, fireplaces and gas burners for heating rooms and water.

Carbon monoxide poisoning is manifested by headache, somnolence, walking stiffness, inaccurate movements, anxiety, vomiting, abdominal pain, diarrhea, rapid breathing and convulsions

Along with the suspicion of the presence of carbon monoxide, we must immediately extinguish the combustion devices, open the windows and doors and go to the fresh air. If we already have signs of carbon monoxide poisoning, we must leave the apartment as soon as possible and call for help at 911.

In order to avoid the worst, effective prevention must be ensured

In addition, it is important to ensure adequate ventilation and discharge of toxic gases. Before the heating season, we must, with the assistance of an expert, inspect, clean and regulate the operation of the central heating or furnace

Alarm devices for carbon monoxide alert us to the increased concentration of carbon monoxide in the air and can save our lives.

In the US, a special law has already reached that 80 to 90 percent of new buildings have built-in carbon monoxide alarm devices

When buying an alarm device, we need to know that the alarm devices for carbon monoxide and fire are different.

The alarm device for carbon monoxide should be in each apartment with a combustion device.

I put in the battery & tested this. Man, it’s super loud. I got two- one for my bedroom & another for the kitchen (centrally located in my house.) looks like very good quality, I love that it’s plug in so I don’t have to worry about remembering to change the battery.

Put one in each of our kitchens. I wanted a battery back up which this does have. The building inspector liked them and they helped us pass a building permit inspection. I like being as prepared as reasonable lets me rest a little easier knowing I’m protecting my family the best I can.
